CoreWeave Inks Multibillion-Dollar Multi-Year Deal to Power Anthropic's Claude

Anthropic has signed a multi-year, multibillion-dollar agreement with CoreWeave to run Claude at production scale, the two companies announced on April 10, 2026. CoreWeave shares closed roughly 10-11% higher on the news, capping a two-day stretch in which the AI cloud specialist also unveiled a $21 billion expansion of its contract with Meta.

The deal deepens Anthropic's push to secure GPU capacity beyond its primary cloud relationships with Amazon and Google, both of which are also investors. CoreWeave says capacity for Anthropic will start coming online later this year across US data centers running a mix of Nvidia chip architectures, with a phased rollout and the option to expand.

What was announced

CoreWeave's official release described the partnership as supporting the "development and deployment of Anthropic's Claude family of AI models" at production scale. The company did not publicly disclose the contract value, but CEO Michael Intrator told reporters it is a "multibillion-dollar" agreement.

"AI is no longer just about infrastructure, it's about the platforms that turn models into real-world impact," Intrator said in the announcement.

With Anthropic joining the customer list, CoreWeave says nine of the leading ten AI model providers now run on its platform — a talking point the company has leaned on as it tries to differentiate from general-purpose hyperscalers.

Why the timing matters

The Anthropic deal landed less than 48 hours after CoreWeave disclosed an additional $21 billion commitment from Meta, which is scaling GPU capacity for its Llama-family models and consumer products. Back-to-back announcements of that size underscore how tight frontier-model compute supply remains heading into mid-2026, and how quickly specialized GPU clouds are locking in long-duration contracts with the largest AI labs.

For Anthropic, the agreement looks like a hedge. The company has raised billions earmarked for compute and already relies on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud TPUs. Bringing CoreWeave into the mix gives it an additional Nvidia-based pipeline without tying more of Claude's roadmap to a single hyperscaler — a point several outlets framed as a "warning shot" to its existing cloud partners.

Implications

Expect three near-term effects. First, competitive pressure on hyperscaler AI pricing should intensify as frontier labs prove they can source capacity from neocloud specialists. Second, CoreWeave's revenue concentration risk shifts meaningfully: Microsoft has historically been its dominant customer, and adding Anthropic alongside Meta broadens the base. Third, Nvidia remains the silent winner — the company's GPUs sit underneath essentially every workload covered by both deals.

What's still unclear is the headline dollar figure, the gigawatt or GPU count involved, and whether the expansion options convert into firm commitments. Investors will likely push for more granularity on CoreWeave's next earnings call.
